More hot and dry weather throughout parts of the Corn Belt led to a one percentage point drop in the overall national condition ratings for corn and soybeans on this week’s Crop Progress Report from USDA. Nationally, corn dropped to 57% good to excellent while soybeans nationwide dropped to 58% good to excellent. Corn is 4% behind last year while soybeans are actually 1% above last year at this time.
In North Dakota, corn rated 69% good to excellent which was down 3% from last week. South Dakota corn was at 50% good to excellent which was down 9% from last week. Iowa corn fell 7% on the week and now stands at 66% good to excellent while Minnesota gained 4% and now sits at 66% good to excellent. Nebraska corn is down 3% on the week to 47% good to excellent.
For soybeans, North Dakota is now at 61% good to excellent which is up 2% on the week. South Dakota soybeans stand at 55% good to excellent which is down 5% on the week. Iowa soybeans fell 8% to now stand at 63% good to excellent while Minnesota went up 4% to 67% good to excellent as of Sunday. Nebraska soybeans are 48% good to excellent, down 6% on the week.
The spring wheat crop nationwide is at 64% good to excellent, unchanged from last week. Minnesota spring wheat is at 80% good to excellent, North Dakota stands at 72% good to excellent and South Dakota is at 47% good to excellent, showing heat and dryness stress.
