(WASHINGTON D.C.) – The hog inventory in the U.S. is up slightly compared to one year ago according to the latest USDA Hogs and Pigs Report. The quarterly report out Thursday showed inventory of all hogs and pigs on March 1st, 2023 at 72.9 million head.
That number was slightly higher than March 1st, 2022 but it was also down 2% from the December 1st, 2022 report numbers.
The report showed breeding inventory at 6.13 million head, up slightly from last year but also down slightly from last December. Market hog inventory was pegged at 66.7 million head which was up slightly from last year. That inventory number was down slightly though from the December numbers.
