MN Soy Growers: Craig an Ideal Choice to Lead Democrats on House Ag Committee

MANKATO – The Minnesota Soybean Growers Association (MSGA) strongly supports Rep. Angie Craig to serve as the lead Democrat on the House Agriculture Committee.

“Since she was elected to Congress in 2018, we have developed a strong working relationship with Congresswoman Craig,” MSGA President Darin Johnson said. “She understands how much agriculture matters to our economy, environment and national security, and we greatly appreciate that Rep. Craig is never afraid to reach across the aisle to find working solutions for producers.”

Rep. Craig, who was reelected in November to represent Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District, has been a stalwart ally of agriculture throughout her three terms in Congress. Congresswoman Craig has a record of putting partisan politics aside to promote policies that benefit farmers, including strengthening rural America’s connections to federal programs and resources, advocating for a new Farm Bill and supporting the biodiesel tax credit. Her consistent advocacy for higher blends of biofuels earned Craig the title of “Biofuels Bulldog” by USDA Sec. Tom Vilsack.

“Angie Craig is a model for the kind of representative Minnesota needs in the U.S. House,” said MSGA Director Bob Worth, who served as president from 2022-2024. “She is on the side of farmers.”

In 2023, she introduced the Farmers First Act, which would reauthorize the Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Network (FRSAN) and ensure rural communities have access to certified community behavioral health clinics, critical access hospitals and rural health centers.

“Rep. Craig has shown time and time again that she’s willing to take the lead on farm-related issues,” Johnson said, “and with the status of the Farm Bill in limbo, her leadership on the House Ag Committee is more critical than ever as we head into 2025.”

Earlier this year, MSGA awarded Rep. Craig, along with her GOP colleague Brad Finstad, the inaugural Spirit of MSGA Award to recognize her proactive efforts in supporting farm-friendly policies.

“We think she’s a fantastic candidate to serve in this role and would be a strong voice for not only Minnesota farmers, but growers across the country,” MSGA Executive Director Joe Smentek said. “Congresswoman Craig’s knack for successfully working with both parties makes her an ideal leader on the Ag Committee.”
